| Susanne Linke was born in 1944. Student of Mary Wigman, she continued at the Folkwang School of Essen, and then danced for the Folkwang Tanz Studio, which she directed with Reinhild Hoffman from 1975 till 1977. In 1977, she became the only director, leading the group to a very high professional level, with group pieces of a particularly strong dramatic intensity like Satie (1977) or Ballade (1978). Perfectly adjusted to the music, based on pure movement and its capacity to create a theatrical dimension, her dances also deal with derision and humour in Warten sie auch? (1977). Back from New York in 1980, she started a soloist work, thanks to changes in the organization of the Folkwang Tanz Studio which had become a collective of choreographers. For three years, there was a solo corresponding to each group creation. Therefore in 1980, Wowerwiewas , a piece which was very close to the theatre of the absurd, in a dismantled bathroom, finds its counterpart with Im bade wannen. In 1981, her work with long pieces of cloth in Frauenballet is developed in the solo Flut . From 1984 on, she worked alone, did choreographies for the GRCOP group, the Limon company and the Hebbel Theater in Berlin . She created Rurhort in 1991 then, with Urs Dietrich, she became the co-director of the Bremen Ballet in 1993. A dancer with incomparable presence, she gives in her solos the best of her talent. |
